Software Support Technician (Kingston, Jamiaca) - The Passport,Immigration and Citizenship Agency

The Passport, Immigration  and Citizenship Agency is looking for suitable candidates to fill the position of:

Software Support Technician (Level 3)

Job Purpose:

The incumbent will support the Agency’s mandate and the effective delivery of service to customers by maintaining user up-time, using onsite and remote access technology to troubleshoot and resolve end-users’ issues

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides remote and onsite assistance to computer users, utilizing provided tools and telephone;

• Responds to support requests according to procedure, recording detailed diagnostic information;
• Collaborates with ICT team and vender support resources to resolve technical issues;
• Develops and maintains documentation on procedures as it relates to agency software as well as detailed help sheets for quick reference;
• Trains end-users on proper use of software installed;

• Attends relevant courses aimed at broadening the knowledge and skills relevant to responsibilities;
• Co-ordinates software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Required Skills and Competencies:

• Sound knowledge of relevant computer applications and systems

• Sound analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team 
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing 
• Strong time management and organizational skills
• Energetic and sound customer service skills
• Competence in at least one OOP language preferable C++ or C#

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

• Diploma in Information Technology or related field;

• Two (2) years related experience;
• Familiarity with various Operating Systems level.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, the Technical Support Officer resolves computer systems and network problems for clients and provides technical assistance to computer users in the use of hardware and software inclusive of printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail and operating systems.

Responsibilities include:

• Inspecting equipment, installing and performing minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specification.
• Entering commands and observing system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors.
• Referring major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service

Qualifications:

 • Diploma, PC Mechanics or Equivalent Qualification
• Certification in Microsoft Office
• At least four (4) years related work experience.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose PC software and minor hardware problems.
• Sound interpersonal skills
• Sound knowledge of PC hardware, operations and characteristics
• Working knowledge of standard database, word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing, flow charting and other PC Software packages

Debt Recording and Systems Support Officer (Kingston, Jamaica) - Ministry of Finance and the Public Service



The  Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is recruiting candidates for the following position in the Economic Management Division:

Debt Recording and Systems Support Officer (GMG/SEG2)

Job Purpose:
  • The incumbent has responsibility to record all loan/grants details, inputting the borrowing terms and recording the actual transactions related to external and domestic debt contracted and guaranteed by the Government. Specifically, he/she will: 
  • Extract comprehensive data on external obligations from loan agreements and record and monitor them on the Commonwealth Secretariat Debt Recording and Management System (CSDMRS). 
  • Maintain an accurate comprehensive and up to date securitised domestic debt database based on information captured on auctions, bonds, benchmark notes and bills issued by the Government.
Main Duties:
  • To support the Manager in the administration of the databases and the maintenance of efficient information system support.
  • To prepare data sheet and transfer debt data to the CS-DRMS database.
  • To prepare debt reports based on accurate debt data.
  • To update the CS-DRMS database
  • To generate key debt reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • To provide input for the Debt Management website as well as to support senior management in their preparation for presentations at seminars, workshops conferences etc

Specific Knowledge and Skills:
  • Appreciation of debt data and basic knowledge of domestic money market instruments.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, applications and data security.
  • Sound knowledge of DOS and Windows operating System Software.
  • Working knowledge of debt management systems and securities management systems preferably the CS-DRMS and CSD.
  • Knowledge of standards and procedures in the maintenance of debt management and other information systems.
  • Working knowledge of SQL
Qualifications/Experience:
  •  BSc. Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration or its equivalent qualification.
  • Three – four (3-4) years’ related experience
Remuneration Package:

Salary: $1,730,109-2,056,555 per annum 
Travelling: $707, 448 per annum.

Administrative Assistant (GMG/AM 3) 
Salary Scale: ($1,010,480 - $1,201,144) per annum

The Database Administrator (MIS/IT 4) must have a: 
  • B.Sc. Degree in Computer Science from a recognized tertiary institution. 
  • Training in Management/Administration
  • Four (4) years working experience in the field of Database Administration. 
  • Knowledgeable in the use of SQL, Oracle or Microsoft Access

 The Administrative Assistant (GMG/AM 3) must have a:

Salary Range: $943,781.00 - $1,121,859.00

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Systems Administrator, the incumbent will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining and protecting the Department’s website and Intranet, as well as the publishing and management of their content.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Creates and maintains the Department’s websites and intranets;
  • Designs and develops web-based software applications from user requirements;
  • Creates multi-media graphic designs for the web and other applications such as presentations;
  • Assists in the training of users in the use of web based software applications;
  • Gathers and compiles user requirements for web based software applications;
  • Collaborates with content providers to ensure timeliness, accuracy and completeness ofall information published on websites or intranets;
  • Represents the Information Technology Unit in matters related to web development andmaintenance;
  • Recommends and implements systems and procedures to secure the website and intranet
  • from hackers and viruses;
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent proficiency with standard word processing and spreadsheet programmes
  • Excellent proficiency with relational database design
  • Excellent understanding of web server components
  • Technical expertise working with online-based programming, products and services,particularly web-based database applications

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience:
  • Diploma in Computer Studies, Information Technology or equivalent from an accredited tertiary institution;
  • Two years’ experience in application and website development;
  • Network-related certification/courses are considered an asset (CCNA, Network+)
  • Strong programming skills
  • Working knowledge of NT, UNIX, SQL and HTML
  • Working experience of XML, Perl (CGI and DBI), PHP
  • Working knowledge of network devices and diagnostic/repair tools (switches, etc.)
Special Conditions Associated with the Job:
  • Extended exposure to CRT rays;
  • Effects of ergonomic extremes and demands of physical tasks at varying heights, etc.;
  • Work requires almost exclusive usage of computers and computer networking equipment.

Job Description

In this role, you will act as a liaison between technical and non-technical people within the firm. Candidates for this position must have strong customer service and communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent
organizational skills are a must for this fast paced, high visibility location.

Responsibilities:


• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, connection, printer and software issues reported to the Service Desk
• Update network applications as required. Maintain daily backup and off-site storage
• Maintain, and administer PBX and low voltage technology such as Cameras, Access Control, Time and Attendance
• Troubleshoot and resolve all problems encountered with hardware and software. Escalate requests to the appropriate party, as needed. Replace or repair defective parts and equipment
• Conduct technology training for new users
• Conduct briefings and demonstrations for users to enhance system productivity
• Develop procedure documentation related to ERP, software and device usage
• Perform routine server monitoring and performance bench
marking
• Monitor and remove virus, spyware, and other non-authorized software
• Complete special projects as requested
Qualifications:
• Associate’s degree in Computer Technology or related field.
• Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years prior experience with providing workstation support.
• The ability to prioritize, be attentive to details, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional client service is required. Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and computer
skills required.

• A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects. Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality.
