WELFARE MANAGER CIKANANGA WILDLIFE CENTER 

Cikananga currently offers an exciting and unique opportunity for a Welfare Manager of Cikananga Wildlife Center to join a passionate team! Besides working with a variety of species of mammals, reptiles and avian species native to Indonesia, the successful candidate will be working close with conservation and welfare organizations in Indonesia. This is a challenging but rewarding position for a highly dedicated and motivated individual with a keen interest in making a contribution towards welfare and conservation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 
The successful candidate will work closely with the keepers, the Veterinarians, Volunteer Coordinator Conservation Manager and report to the General Manager. She or he will participate in the long-term planning for the Cikananga with regards to conservation programs, animal husbandry, animal facilities and staff developments.

- Supervise and carry out all aspects of animal husbandry in close cooperation with the keepers; environmental, dietary and sensory enrichment, introductions/moves, enclosure modification and animal record keeping
- Supervise and organize all aspects for new arrivals; quarantine, housing, diets and care
- Supervise and carry out all aspects of the international education program; contact with schools, planning, budgeting and supervision on site.
- Assist in the supervision of interns, students or volunteers in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator with emphasizes on organizing and carrying out extra work with volunteers and interns to ensure animal welfare and enclosure maintenance
- Develop, recommend and implement protocols, standards and guidelines relating to animal husbandry and enrichment
- Collaborate with the medical team in all aspects of hand-rearing of rescued juveniles/orphans of a variety of taxa where necessary
- Collaborate with the Conservation Manager in pre-release assessments of animals prior to introduction to the wild
- Carry out animal observations with regards to health issues and behavior and inform the Veterinarian when illness or injury is suspected
- Coordinate closely with the General Manager in the design, modification and building of enclosures - Perform routine inspection of enclosures for cleanliness and structural defects and organize minor maintenance and repair of animal enclosures when feasible
- Keep and report animal records, maintain and improve databases for all animal management records (ZIMS and other software)
- Monthly report writing
- Prepare budget or funding requests and manage the allocated budget for the animal welfare department
- Prepare budget plans in close collaboration with the General Manager and Conservation Manager

Requirements 
- A degree in zoology, biology, conservation, animal behavior, zoo keeping or related field, or proven equivalent work experience
- Proven working experience with a variety of species in a zoo, rescue center, breeding center or similar working environment is required
- A keen interest in welfare and conservation is essential
- Excellent administration, organization and communication skills
- Knowledge of wildlife and habitat conservation, especially with regards to Southeast Asian conservation issues
- Good command of English (spoken and written)
- Good improvisational and practical skills - Flexibility and ability to cope with a sometimes heavy workload (also on weekends and possible night shifts) and to multi-task in a demanding environment - Ability to live and work under simple conditions in a rural area. Some previous experience of working/living in developing countries and/or in tropical climates would be an advantage
- Physically fit and able to work in a hot and humid climate
- Team-working skills and ability to work in a multi-national team
- Cultural sensitivity

Conditions 
- Free shared accommodation (private room with access to shared bathroom, kitchen and living room, water, electricity) located at Cikananga
- Full-time work (usually from 7-11 am and 1-5 pm) for six days a week, with flexibility as required and on-call availability for emergencies

Elephant Team Support Keeper


The ABQ BioPark is seeking a Support Keeper for the Elephant Team. This individual will help our Elephant Care Specialists in the daily tasks involved with managing a herd of six Asian elephants. This individual will not have direct contact with or train the elephants. This position is staffed through a staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:The Elephant Team needs a dynamic, creative, self-motivated individual who will work well in a team environment, learn our complex elephant program, and support the Elephant Team in their daily tasks. This work will include odd days off, working holidays, physical exertion (bending, lifting, carrying, raking, shoveling, walking over rough terrain and working in inclement weather). Meeting deadlines set by the lead keepers is a must. A high school diploma and driver’s license is required. Experience working with animals is preferred, but not required. Individual selected must pass a security background check and a TB test.
Tasks the ABQ BioPark Elephant Team Support Keeper performs include, but are not limited to:
· Have a great attitude
· Support the Elephant Team in daily operations
· Strive to stay on task and achieve schedule goals set by the daily lead keeper
· Shovel, rake, and squeegee an average of 1,500 pounds of debris and manure daily
· Safely utilize mechanical equipment to maintain substrate in the barns and yards
· Perform barn and yard maintenance tasks
· Restock supplies such as hay (average 40 pounds per bale), grain (average 50 pounds per bag), and produce
· Prepare complex diets
· Read, understand and follow the daily enrichment plan. Prepare items and set up as directed
· Learn and follow USDA and AZA guidelines for elephant care
· Accept and follow instructions
· Accept feedback to improve performance
· Other duties as assigned by the ABQ BioPark Elephant Manager
Work Schedule:Odd days off (generally Tuesday and Wednesday), 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. , one hour lunch; time must not exceed 40 hours in one week. This individual will work holidays; including Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Pay Rate:$10.00 - $12.05/per hour based on experience and a probationary period. This position is hired through a staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque, and has a two year maximum.
